A new panel of experts are set to advise the North East Mayor Kim McGuinness and her Cabinet on growing the regional economy and creating opportunity for everyone.

The newly formed Business and Economy Board will provide expert strategic advice to the Mayor as she and Cabinet deliver the region’s new Local Growth Plan which is in development, alongside the work of the North East Combined Authority.

A new Chair is being sought to lead the board, who will provide specialist advice and insights from the business sector to the Mayor and Cabinet across a wide remit, as the combined authority continues to establish new projects and funded programmes.

The Chair will also attend cabinet meetings, sharing their experience and bringing their leading business voice into all work of the combined authority in this new voluntary position.

North East Mayor Kim McGuinness, said: “Embedding the business voice is a hugely important part of my mission to make North East the home of real opportunity for all. We need to ensure our regional economy is as strong as it can possibly be to help us achieve our long-term goals and deliver our ambitious plans for the region.

“We must unlock major growth, boost our business community and attract significant investment to really change the lives of people living here in the North East.

“With high quality jobs and a thriving business sector, we will bring more people out of poverty and deliver long-lasting change that will benefit our communities.

“The new Chair of the Business and Economy will work closely with myself and Cabinet to make sure we have our finger on the pulse of the region’s business sector, working in a truly collaborative way to do business on behalf of the people of the North East.
