What is an integrated transport network?
The transport network is everything that helps people and goods move efficiently across our region. It includes the roads we drive on, the buses we ride, our Metro system, and our train services. But it’s more than that – it’s the Shields Ferry connecting communities across the Tyne, and it’s the vital infrastructure that links us to key hubs like our sea ports and Newcastle International Airport, ensuring that businesses can trade and thrive.
An integrated transport network should bring all of this under a cohesive identity. The network will be efficiently designed, simple and easy to use, and part of people's everyday lives.
High quality, integrated transport is important for the North East as it enables people to get to work, training, education, health services, meet friends, and for other leisure opportunities.
A more integrated transport network could deliver affordable public transport fares, improves access to opportunities, including education, employment and healthcare and removes transport related social exclusion.
